FOC Picks for September 20, 2026: D&D, Godzilla, and Halloween Trouble
This week's final-order list has dragons, kaiju, Gotham citizens caught in a superbloom, and an immortal Roman soldier with the worst annual appointment imaginable. Here are eight books we'd be excited to talk through across the counter.
Planet's customer cutoff is Sunday, September 20 at 11:59 PM Eastern. Use our Last Call page to choose the exact series and covers you want before the window closes.
Dungeons & Dragons #1
A draconic apocalypse is bearing down on the Forgotten Realms, and Mordenkainen has to face it without his magic. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly write, with Ibraim Roberson on art. If your ideal first issue starts by taking away the wizard's biggest advantage, this is a very clean place to roll initiative.
Godzilla: Revenge of the Deadzone #1
The Wanderer is a G-Force captive in New York, scientists are digging into his past, and the government has plans for the Deadzone. Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan, and Pablo Tunica return for a five-issue story built for readers who like their kaiju worlds strange, secretive, and a little paranoid.
Amazing Spider-Man: Halloween Special #1
Hallows' Eve is planning her biggest heist, Spider-Man is trying to stop it, and the story is also teasing a new Spidey costume. Justina Ireland and Mike Hawthorne have a seasonal special that sounds like a proper bowl of candy: a little crime, a little costume drama, and plenty of webbing.
Amphibia: Strange Voyage #1
Years after Anne saved Amphibia, the Plantars set sail for a new continent and wash up on an island full of secrets. Series creator Matt Braly writes and Beatrice Bovo draws this new journey, making it an easy recommendation for show fans and a friendly starting point for younger fantasy readers.
Batman Bad Seeds: Streets of Gotham #1
Instead of watching Gotham's newest crisis from behind Batman's cape, this one follows everyday people surviving Poison Ivy's superbloom. Matt Fraction and Mariko Tamaki lead six street-level stories about fear, courage, and what heroism looks like when you don't have a utility belt.
Hammer Head #1
Jules survived Hammer Head's killing spree twenty years ago. Now she has been imprisoned without trial and pulled into a ritual designed to drag her back toward the horror she escaped. Ed Brisson and Damian Couceiro are serving a slasher setup with a survivor at its center, which is exactly the right kind of mean for October reading.
10.31 #1
An immortal Roman soldier has to fight ravenous demons every year or lose his soul. That is a compact, gloriously inconvenient curse, and Kenney Mesnard, Gabe Pena, and Ka Xing waste no time getting to the hook. Pick this one if you want a Halloween one-shot that arrives with its own countdown clock.
247 Comics Presents / Spotlight #1
This quarterly anthology is basically a sampler platter with no respect for genre boundaries: AI paradise, cyborg baseball, alien-engineered teenagers, feudal fantasy, and cult horror all share the bill. Brian Buccellato, Larry Hama, Anderson Carman, and a long list of collaborators make it the pick for anyone who would rather try five doors than commit to one hallway.
